February Book review- Part of the lost Review collection
So before you read, I forgot to publish a review or two…. So I will be posting them over the next few weeks or when I stumble upon them. 😊
Hello Fellow Book Lovers!
I have not been keeping up with my schedule, which needs to change. One of my good friends recently read an author I adore, Talia Hibbert. Mrs. Hibbert inspires me to publish my stories to the world since she does not portray black women as a monolith. My friend was reading the Brown Sister Series. I had this series on my to-read list on Good Reads. I decided instead of waiting until spring, I would read it for the month of “Love.” Fun Fact February is derived from the Latin Februas and is named after the Februa ritual for purification to promote health and fertility. I digress ( Be ready for tangents)! I read the Brown sister series in one month. If you have not read the series yet, you should add it to your summer read list. Each book was fun and quirky, and each sister was distinct in looks, education, and drive.
The Three books’ titles are “Get a Life, Chloe Brown,” Take a Hint, Dani Brown,” and “Act your Age, Eve Brown” each book is under 400 pages. I found it easy to get lost in the story with a good glass of wine. The series follows the lives of the three sisters as they attempt to conquer a quirk they have while falling in love unexpectedly.
I enjoyed the difference in each sister’s story. They have their own problems and outlook on life, and the subtle differences are lovely; while reading it, I still appreciate the sisterly bond with each other. While reading the books, I assumed I was similar to Dani Brown, but truth be told, I was more like Chloe, afraid to live and just focused on working. Avoidant attachment style does not prevent heartbreak. It’s a tedious way to live. In her book, the Building Superintended had another idea. I enjoyed how in each book, the love interest didn’t want to change the women but adored them for who they were to their core. I think that in real life, that is what all people wish, a person to love us for who we are at our core, challenge us to be better, but truly love
The side characters were delightful and helped with the story’s progression. The grandmother and her sass. How the whole family just want the best for their daughters. Although through, the women had issues and problems to rise above, I loved that it didn’t feel heavy, or woe is me, but more like this is my life and let me move forward. There problems, weren’t their characteristics, but amplified who they were as humans.
The wines I drank were unique, and I felt like I could drink them with the sisters. I know Dani’s choice was Red Wine, if I remember correctly from her book. I chose three black-owned wines to pair with this series. Additionally, these are all wines I had available for Chloe Brown. I started with Black Girl Magic Riesling, which was nice. I ended up with Dani Brown’s book, drinking the Brown Estate Chardonnay, which really paired well with Dani’s personality Crisp, refreshing, and a bit complex. I wanted to do a red with Dani, but hey, you drink what is available while reading. The wine I chose for Eve was MontFleur Duvin “Yvonne,” a peach flavor wine that is sweet, welcoming, and delightful, which was all of Eve once she focused on her passion. Below are some links to art inspired by the brown sisters. You should definitely check it out and support an artist. I might go even, but these prints are so unique.
