Books I didn’t finish in 2022… a Continuation of Last week Blog
Another Year and Another set of books I started but didn’t finish. In 2021, my reasons for not finishing books were based on the 2nd half of my 2021 was super busy with work and other projects, and I wanted to give 100% of my energy to those projects. But I again have a pile of books that I didn’t finish this time; it’s me. Work was still busy, but I couldn’t focus and let my life run amuck. So why didn’t I finish these books? I found a few of the book themes heavy, I lost focus in the middle of one of the books, and a book I wanted to read release date was pushed back, and I told myself I would return and didn’t return to reading until 2023 (this year). Below are the books that I will attempt to finish in 2023.

Guarding Temptation by Talia Hibbert – I started to read this book but stopped because I wanted to be home wrapped in my electric blanket with the right bottle of wine. As I Cracked the book open, I thought, “Where is my wine?” So I will read over the mini-break (MLK 3-day weekend is coming up.). Which wine will go with this book, it is seductive, and the title says temptation, so… maybe a glass of red wine, not sure yet.

The Good Wife of Bath by Karen Brooks – I was so excited to read this book. I love Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer! This is technically a retelling of one of the Canterbury Tales through the Wife of Bath. It is a good book and wonderfully written, but it’s very long, and I lost interest on page 300. I will finish the book, I feel like I am a third of the way through, and it’s a good book. I just lost interest.

Crying in the H-Mart by Michelle Zauner, I love this book! Also, another book I was so excited to read. I have to warn you, it’s heavy. I cried about every chapter and found myself wanting to hug the author. Though there are lovely lessons throughout the book. The language used is simple and beautiful, but that simplicity will be a gut punch with every revelation. I cried for the author’s pain in dealing with her trauma. It’s a great book, but I needed to be in a better place ( emotionally) to finish this book.

The Paid Bridesmaid by Sarah Wilson was another book I started, and Jenifer Lewis’s book dropped “Walking in my Joy.” So, I dropped this book like a hot potato! But I promise to come back to this book in 2023.

Dial A for Auntie by Jesse Q. Sutan, I am not sure why I stopped reading this book. It was only 2% done so it could be as simple as I started reading it, had to close my Kindle App, and when I returned to it, I was sidetracked and started doing something else. This happens a lot. I will start a book, have to close an app, or answer a call. Then, the next thing you know, you are on a new adventure and never return to the book.

Token Black Girl by Danielle Prescod I fell in love with this creator from TikTok, and when I found out she wrote a book, I put this on the list. I am moving this to the 2023 must-read list because she deserves my undivided attention while reading this book.
Book Lover by Emily Henry I saw this book in Target! I saw this book in B&N, I saw this book on Kindle, on google, and in the library. I still only read page 1. I think I will try this book in 2023. But it didn’t get my full attention in 2022. ( P.s. this was the last book I read in 2022! So a review for that will come up probably will do a Romance Book for February)
Honorable Mention: “You Should Sit Down for This” by Tamera Mowry -Housley I will finish this book this year. I know it! It’s good, and I will also get a book review for 2023. (Side note I did not finish this book in 2022, but I will finish this after Token Black Girl)
Not as bad as the 2021 list, and I really want to go back to read all of these books. I hope next year I can reach my goal of at least 60 books. Unfortunately, I didn’t make my 2022 Good Read Book Goal. I completed 26 books for 2022 was not a good book reading year, but in 2023 I feel like I will be able to attack all these books I have not finished and even a few I have been dying to read.
Until Next time.
Che Michelle
