Summer Updates… at the End of Summer

Life gets in the way of Writing… June/July Update

Hello,

Did you miss me? Probably not.  So again, life and living my life got in the way of writing for my blog.  This time, I have been keeping up with reading; I have read a few books over the last three months (May–August 4, 2023) ok, more like two months and seven days; cue Prince’s song “Nothing Compares to U.” Maybe not the first line is “It’s been even Hours and 15 days”.  Now did Goodreads capture all these books? For some reason, no [insert eye roll emoji here]. I had so many ideas for the blog for June and July.  I wanted to do a science fiction post and a Pride/LGBTQIA book review post. I wanted to do a blog post about Books discussing the best and worst Fathers I have read in a book series. I have had an increase in work, so being available for your partner is a thing. I say this not to shade my partner; I like spending time with them and enjoy every moment with them. When I am with them, I cannot write, and here we are, almost six weeks and no blog post. I decided on this rare occasion to sit and free-write a post or two.

Major update I have cleared off at least six books on my never finished book list and only added one extra book on my list, maybe two.  According to Kindle, between May 1- June 30th, I read 58 days, only missing three days in June.  My books ranged from unconventional Love stories, Humorous Historical fiction to science fiction.  I also read a book on Google Books, but Google Books does not break down any analytics. I completed twelve reading achievements for Spring 2023 on Amazon Kindle. I prefer to avoid how Amazon does some of its achievements because you must buy or borrow the book on the list and finish it before the end of the challenge. [insert eye roll emoji] I kept reading this spring into summer. I realized I still love escaping to a world filled with colorful characters, exciting thoughts, and sometimes nonsensical stories.

I am changing the rating system to a glass of wine/beer/whiskey/water or other emojis that express how much I love a book.  You can thank Andre Mack and my love of his videos about wine.  But I like the idea of rating a book 2, 3, or 5 glasses of wine or bottle of beer.

But CHE, where are the book reviews?

Can I reintegrate if I do not write a review at least a week after finishing a book, then it won’t be written?  I read at least ten books over the last two months, and where are the reviews? [ insert a picture of looking] Moving forward, my book reviews will be compacted over the next few weeks.  You may see a quick list of books I have read with a rating of how I enjoyed the book or how much wine was needed to finish the book. Reviews will be coming once I get my life together. I plan to set alarms, write a review within a weekend, and edit the post poorly.   I finished reading C.T. Rwizi’s “House of Gold,” this book!  I cannot tell you why you should read this book.  Also, Amazon got it together; I finished “While We Were Dating by Jasmine Guillory, and it still says it is 89% done; no, it’s done!  I was delighted with how the book ended.

I want to see if I can finish the other books in the Jasmine Guillory series this summer; I have 85 days to try.  I have read the Wedding Date, The Proposal, and While We Were Dating. So, I must read The Wedding Party, Royal Holiday, and Party of Two. I have read her other books, By the Book (super cute, go check it out), Drunk on Love, and the Southern Belle Insults series with Keke Palmer.

Also, WordPress now offers payment options for all tiers.  I am contemplating putting my short stories behind a paywall. It will only be $2; I haven’t decided.

Anyway, I have rambled enough for an update on my reading list.

  • Get back to writing!
  • Compact post short 2-3 sentences about a book
  • Deep dive into my dream film cast from books I have read.
  • Essay about exploring other genres.
  • Possibly putting short stories up behind a paywall.
  • Still reading and drinking (not as much, because I read on my lunch break more than after work)
  • An actual update on what books I cleared off my Kindle, Google Play, and beside my bed.

Until Next Time,

Che Michelle.
