Two years ago, I read the book “Have we met?” I thought I wrote a blog post for it, but I didn’t. ‘The Moment We Met’ is not a direct sequel to ‘Have We Met? ‘, But it does follow a similar narrative style. This time, we delve into the life of Tiwanda, a 30-year-old woman who finally decides to bet on herself to start her dream business. In the process, she opens herself up to finding her “soulmate.” I love how the book opens; to some people, it would come off as dull. She is celebrating her 30th birthday with her family, and a declaration of quitting her job comes out. Tiwanda, to me, is practical and doesn’t want to leave and pontificate about the What If?” Well, the What if becomes the reality.
I love this book because it features a Black woman, Tiwanda, who is sure about herself and loves the person she is. This aspect of her identity is not just a background detail but a central part of the story. She doesn’t want to change herself for others; she lives in her world as her authentic self, and her friends and family support her with no question. As the book progresses, though it’s a story about finding love, it is more about achieving one dreams. The love elements and meeting her “Soulmates” take a back seat as she strives to open her dream business. As the story unfolds, you realize the app is helping her see that there is more than one person who is perfect for her, but people should not be discarded cause a romantic connection didn’t work.
I love how the story deals with reconnecting with family as Tiwanda reconnects with her mother’s side of the family several times throughout the book. It touches on the dynamic of friendship and how to deal with losing one of the closest friends. The book also touches on disappointments in starting a business and the inevitable setbacks. Fair warning if you want a spicy book with many X-rated scenes. This is not the book for you; this is perfect for those who wish for a delightful story, well-developed characters, and subplots that aid the story progression and do not make you question the author’s use of a scene.

Overall, this was a fun read for a summer weekend; it was the proper slice of life, with comedy and touching moments. I would give this book 3 out of five wine glasses. The book’s main character, Tiwanda, is starting a unique type of chocolate business specializing in handcrafted chocolates. I don’t want to give too much away, but I want to stay true to the book. If you are more on the sweet wine or prefer a pink tint to your wine (aka Rose’), the Fresh Strawberry Rose wine has the perfect sweetness. It complements the lovely moments in the book, along with enough bite to go with Tiwanda’s sassy but lovable personality. If you want to add chocolate and wine while reading this book, you should get some of your favorite chocolate candy, cake, or cookies. If you feel up to it, an excellent, lovely Red Blend to pair with Berries and chocolate. I would suggest Mimic Red Wine Blend notes of blackberries and toasted marshmallows. It is a superb, elegant wine under $10 and will complement the juicy moment within the book. I got some chocolate from Trader Joe’s. I turned to Spotify and listened to R&B music. A song by Kiana Lede’ and Ari Lennox popped up called “Chocolate.” I sat outside close to the sunset and enjoyed reading this magnificent book.

Until Next Time,
Che Michelle
