I wanted this summer to be full of thrillers and suspense novels, but I am having a Spicy Girl Summer instead. So far, three books I have read this summer have been spicy. Sight Unseen was good. Imagine you get Love is Blind mixed with Married at First Sight. The book starts with a wedding and camera crew; crews; we are introduced to Quincy meeting his new Bride, Evelyn, two professional Black people who both decide to go on a dating show, “Why Not?” If you love dating shows and reality TV, this book is for you; it adds in all the hijinks of what happens during filming and whether people fall in love with “Sight Unseen.”
As the story progresses, we discover that Quincy and Evelyn are entirely different but similar.  I think people like this make the best relationship; on the outside, you wonder what makes them perfect, but you see the spark, the love, the lust in their eyes, and even movement. Quincy comes off as a private, no-nonsense, skeptical Black Man. Evelyn is a true bohemian Black woman who wants to do art and enjoy life. They both have complicated backstories, but they seem to understand and respect their past, which creates a connection of trust between the two. They do not trauma bond over the past but continuously create new memories to solidify the present and build a solid foundation for a marriage.  I will not act like Quincy and Evelyn have no relationship hiccups, but the hiccups are like any standard relationship problems before boundaries and clear communication are developed.

Let us get to the good stuff; the spice in this book is a level 5 spice factor when it comes to the sex scenes.  The way the author writes the tension and sexual chemistry, I even yelled at Quincy to stop playing! Kasha Thompson delivered, and the scenes are creative and inviting; as the reader, you want a Quincy in your bedroom. Vice versa, you may want to tap into Evelyne’s seduction techniques and her allure with your partner cause Evelyn took a class on seduction from Erykah Badu and Jill Scott the way she please her man.

Now, this is where I have a weird moment. I want to know how the author came up with a few details, but that will be a private chat I will keep with my friends. At one point, if she said the Main character had a grandmother named Dorothy, I would be emailing the author asking the wildest questions ever.

I digress; let’s discuss what I sipped while reading this book. I am sorry, y’all, I did not get a chance to pair a wine with the book; it was so good.  But I did sip on Sagamore canned cocktails; I enjoyed the Sagamore Green apple Whiskey cocktail crafted with the Cane collection. It was sweet, with a hint of sourness and a nice bite from the whiskey. In all honesty, it complimented the part of the book I was at and made me smile when Quincy and Evelyn were flirting and leading up to a spicy encounter. If I were to reread this book, I would pair this book with a lovely Tempranillo.  I suggest a Tempranillo  Uro Toro Seleccion year 2016. It’s fruity, bold, and a bit earthy, but it compliments the vibrant fruit notes, mostly Currant and blackberry. Either beverage complements the books. The Green Apple Cocktail highlights the fun and sweet moments. At the same time, the Tempranillo enhances the seduction and serious aspects of dealing with past trauma and developing a bond with a stranger.

Until Next Time,
Che Michelle

Also, there are many synchronicities in this book. One of the main characters shares a birthday with me, and this book was published on a dear family member’s birthday. I know it is just a coincidence, or is it?
