A summer update would not be complete without books. I started and said, “Ehhh, maybe later,” or I just gave up on it. So far, three books from this summer are on my “I will get back to it” list, aka the Unfinished Book Club. This club is not about guilt or pressure on anyone to finish books but a celebration of the diverse reading experiences that we all encounter. It is a space to share our thoughts, recommendations, and unfinished reads. The Unfinished Book Club is a community where we can discuss our reading experiences, share recommendations, and support each other in our reading journeys. Life happens, and it would be lovely to read daily, but life is life. I created this blog to launch a hobby writing habit and talk about books I like while I drink wine, whiskey, or water. Below are the three books I will reevaluate in the fall of 2024 or sometime in 2025, whichever comes first.
First book up: “Inanna” by Emily H. Wilson

I attempted to draft a short story about the Goddess Inanna a few years ago. I could have captured her personality better, so it remains locked away in my never-ending Work in Progress folder. When I saw this book, I jumped at the chance to read it. To see how others captured the” Je ne sais quoi” of Inanna. It was not captivating me. I tried, but the story jumps around to so many different characters that I said I would try to read it this fall. The Emily Wilson version of the Ancient Sumerian goddess Inanna is not for me right now. I hope in a few weeks, when I have more time and a nice glass of unoaked chardonnay, I will enjoy reading this story.

“I Curse You with Joy” by Tiffany Haddish.
Tiffany Haddish is a great comedic actress. I love learning more about Tiffany Haddish’s life and backstory. This book details what happened in her mother-and-father relationship and dealing with her father’s issues with Tiffany’s success. Tiffany Haddish has triumphed over much hardship. I loved how she has grown from her first book. In one chapter, Haddish discusses how “The Last Black Unicorn” helped people with her hilarious storytelling about life and revenge. I will go back to finish “I Curse You with Joy” in September or October. It would be best to read this book when work and personal life are not so hectic.

Tempted by Danger by Endiya Carter
Ohhhh. I only slowed up on this book cause the spice was scotch bonnet spicy! Dymon Danger and Quinci Everly create so much heat that I could not listen to this book driving, at work, or in public. Imagine you get the job of a lifetime, good benefits, an apartment to live in, and a cantankerous boss who is set to make your job hell. By Chapter 13, I want Dymon Danger as a boss, but not really. I want to get a bottle of wine and finish this book alone in my room. Oh, I will be finishing this book very soon. I eagerly look forward to discovering if Dymon Danger gets the prize or if Quinci Everly emerges as a new Bad B***** from this job. Or will everything come crashing down and burn in flames for the two main characters? P.s. if you read this before i finish, pair with the Blood Orange Rose’ Wine. When I write the full review you will understand.
These are just a few of the unfinished summer books. I still have a few from the spring at 4%, so good luck finishing those books. I tend to read multiple books simultaneously; sometimes, completing them all takes me a while. But I am determined to get through them all eventually.
