P.S. I was going to wait until February to post this blog. However, it snowed and I figured I wanted to keep my streak of posting once a week.

Have you ever just said out loud, “I need to read a romance book.” That happened today, and I was thinking, “What book should I read?” I  declared in a loud, silly voice, I need some romance. I search through my Kindle and see that I have downloaded Ali Hazelwood’s “Hot for the Slayer”. I should be honest, I am a sucker for the Amazon Original stories. On this rainy day, I started reading “Hot for Slayer. ” It starts with a woman Vampire, whose name is too long to type, so we will go to her nickname, “Ethel”, who is battling a slayer, “Lazlo Enyedi”. Now, the way the story opens is like a scene from Buffy the Vampire Slayer: fighting and trying to escape Lazlo.

This was not what I expected, but it captivated me, especially the way the main character, Ethel, escapes Lazlo; she is quick-witted and sly.  As the book progresses, Ethel recounts all the times they met, all the times she escaped Lazlo before he could attack her. As the book progresses, Hazlewood takes a true Enemies-to-Lovers story to a supernatural level.  Both characters are quirky and funny as they navigate the unconventional process of getting to know each other.  I found Ethel funny, quirky, and torn: should she run away, or enjoy the bond she had experienced in this brief moment. Lazlo is the brooding man who wants to enjoy the moment and is ready to stay with Ethel.

I would rate this book four out of five wine glasses. I appreciate that it was a quick afternoon book.  It was lust-filled and stayed on the edge of temptation.  I enjoy soft romances, where couples do everyday couple stuff, like Ethel enjoying sleeping next to a man.  A moment to cook with a loved one in the kitchen; these moments make love and relationships special.  I would suggest anyone who wants a light read about Vampires and Slayers.  I could see this as a show on Netflix, but as I finished the book. I prefer it as a book. I do enjoy the twist towards the end of the book.

Now, what should you sip with this book? I partook of Roscato Rose wine. This wine is for Sweet lovers. It’s a nice sparkling wine that works well with the smoked turkey sandwich. The Roscato Rose wine has a slightly berry flavor and reminds me of cotton candy.  The Roscato complimented Ethel’s personality; she is an ethical vampire, and when I read in the book as Ethel and Lazlo began to connect, it highlighted a fantastic love growing.  Read this book, grab a bottle of Roscato, and enjoy these winter nights.

Until Next time,

Che Michelle

p.s. This book is rated 3.9 out of 5 stars on GoodReads, so I think four wine glasses out of 5 is a good score. 😊
