I am currently reading Amazon Originals Scared Sexy Series. I am almost done. I am still deciding whether to do them all in one post or individually. I am thinking I will do my favorite three books from the series individually, and the three I liked but didn’t fall in love with.
Katee Roberts’ short story in this series is book five of a six-book series. We are introduced to Gemma, a spunky demon who cannot seem to scare humans. Katee Roberts created a demon-angel world with rules similar to those of Monsters, Inc. Gemma is unable to scare a human, create night terrors, or nightmares. Gemma lucks up when she is assigned to a human named Caleb. In Katee Robert’s fashion, a moment to be scary turns into a sexy tryst. As their story unfolds, you find out Caleb is lonely and welcomes the nightly visits. Gemma questions whether she should even be scaring humans to feed.

The world-building is beautiful; you can tell that each world has its own rules. The idea of not knowing what would happen to you if you b2reak the rules, that you will disappear or worse. Caleb’s willingness to aid Gemma to prevent her from being killed in her world. I appreciate Caleb’s curiosity about Gemma’s life, her upbringing. Gemma was also invested in Caleb, realizing he was a Gentle soul, and that attempting to scare a man who had already lost everything was pointless.
Katee Roberts has a way of introducing unique relationships into stories. I have read a majority of her books where she adds themes of BDSM play, poly relationships, and non-traditional partnerships. In this book, Roberts showcases a loving pansexual relationship with healthy communication and boundary setting. In addition, receiving consent on both sides of the relationship. Asking if this is ok or if you want to do this verbally. I enjoyed reading this book from the series, with the vibe of an Adult-themed “Monsters Inc.”

If you are into non-traditional relationships with two hopeless romantic characters, you should read this book. It was worth every minute, and in the end, you will be happy with how it ends. The wine I would suggest for this book is a bit different. I am basing this wine on the theme of angels and demons, “Quady Red Electra Moscato.” It is heavy with the berries, cranberries, raspberries, and pomegranates. It is a blend of Orange Muscat and Black Muscat wine, with a few floral notes. I think it complements Gemma’s character well, deep and sweet. I just realized I might call this my Moscato series. I have at least 3 bottles of Moscato for each book so far.
