Ohhh, just in time for the spooky season! I am starting off the Spooky season with a Witchy Romantic Comedy. “The Ex-Hex.” You can thank Target for giving me a 20% off book purchase, getting me back into the saddle, or reading. So, this was one of the books I was intrigued by and ended up in my cart, on my bill, and finally, 2 months later, I read it. I could read most of this book on a weekend with a glass of wine.   This summer was busy and went very fast, and I could not steal a Saturday or Sunday to read a book. But on the last weekend of September, I could do my two favorite things, read and sip wine. Ring the bells of joy. So, my first book back into reading is this charming rom-com.

We follow the story of Vivienne, who does what I think any of us experience crying over a broken heart, but her story is a bit different. She hexes her ex. I wish I would hex a few exes if I wasn’t afraid of Karma. Nothing terrible, just like they always get a speed ticket or every bottle of wine tastes sour to them. The hex that she and her cousin perform is just to make her smile. Well, the curse worked, and we are brought along for the hi-jinks of the hex. Now you may ask who does Vivienne hex, well the town-founder Great-Great-Great Grandson Rhys Penhallow.

Here’s the thing for a quick read with quirky characters and a central plot line this was a nice story. There are some questions I want to ask, but I think they were answered in chapter one. I will go back and read chapter one to see if the question I have, was answered and I just missed it. I enjoyed that we focused on the reunion of Rhys and Vivi, but they also had a mystery to solve. Mixed in with a few ghosts, a talking cat, and lust-filled scenes off the wall. Happy Samhain to all!

Here, there are parts of the story I wanted to know more about. What happened to Rhys Beth rowed? What happens to Vivienne’s mother? I did feel like the author underused the father in the story, but I understood the father is more like the boogie man to everyone in name only.   I enjoyed the book for a fun read; it was great to unwind and sip wine.

I decided to finally drink a bottle of wine from a gift I received last year from the company “In Good Taste Wine.” I loved the bottle because it fit the aspect of the book, looking like a little potion bottle and connected to the tarot cards with the look and name Fortune. It had notes of Strawberry and Cranberry with hints of figs. It was light and complimented the humor in the book.   I will drop the link for in good taste wine below. This was the best way to reset my reading brain after a summer of non-reading. Would I suggest this book and wine? Yes, for a book club night and laughter. But, if you want a more serious book, this is not the book for you.

Until Next time,

Che Michelle

P.S. The Kiss Cure may be read before the end of October 2022 or 2023. Life is hectic.

P.S.S. Do not Hex an ex! O.M.G. don’t do it! That stuff can come back on you’re a$$ and finding someone to undo the hex… is a lot and not always pretty.

Please forgive this horrible attempt at being artistic

[…] 2024. The first two books follow the Jones/Penhallow family. The first book follows Vivienne Jones (https://chemichelletales.com/2022/10/15/the-ex-hex-was-ex-ceptional/), and the second book follows her cousin Gwen and her hijinks in Graves Glen. I loved both books. […]
